A GLITZY ball and fashion show raised an amazing £6000 for cancer patients at Crosshouse Hospital.
Hairdresser Amanda Gilmour, of Francis Hair and Beauty Salon, Galston, has organised the Crystal Ball fundraiser for the past three years.
Guests at the ball were treated to entertainment and a fashion show where all the models, who are past cancer sufferers, got glammed up in ball gowns and took to the catwalk.
And although this year’s event was meant to the final fling, Amanda has already pledged to run a similar event next year!
She explained: “After the amazing response and many requests, next year’s is already in the planning. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the models, the attendees and all the supporters of the ball for making it a record breaking night.
“We have been fitting cancer patients with wigs for about four years. We find that wigs can help give men and woman their confidence back after being through cancer.
We often find that women find losing their hair the hardest bit of having cancer treatment and we work closely with these patients when we fit them for wigs. I decided four years ago to start up the Crystal Charity Ball to help raise money to be used where it will help these patients most.”
Charge Nurse Kendall Davidson added: “We would like to thank Amanda for all her hard work in raising money for Ward 3C. And thanks also to everyone who supports the charity by going along to the ball. The money raised will be used to buy new chairs for the waiting room in the ward.”
