- 5 Ponytail Braid Hairstyles to Make with Ponytail Hair Extension
Here are some suggested hairstyles by our expert stylists with a step-by-step guide.
1.1 For the First Three Ponytail Braid Hairstyles, Apply the Below Steps First:
- Damp your natural hair
- Leave some hair at the front for face-framing.
- Use styling gel to sleek back all hair smoothly.
- Gather them to make a ponytail. Take two ties for perfect hold and make a ponytail so that your natural ponytail does not weigh down or pull back when you add ponytail hair extension.
- Use the edge control brush’s comb side if your edges or flyaways need to be laid down. Dip it in styling gel and comb all hair backward. When doing edges, use edge control gel with that brush. (Optional step)
- Place the Uniwigs‘ ponytail extension’s claw/grip part on the base of the ponytail. Tuck the claw/grip under your elastic to help the extension stay secure.
- Wrap the ponytail tightly around together. You will see velcro that goes together to secure it.
- Wrap the extension’s tail part around the ponytail base and secure it with a bobby pin.
Hairstyle 1: 3-Strand Braid Ponytail:
Step 1. Apply all steps present in section 1.1.
Step 2. Make three sections of your ponytail. Make sure all these sections contain an equal amount of natural hair and extensions’ hair.
Step 3. Make a three-strand braid until you reach the ends of your hair.
Step 4. Tie it with an elastic band. Take some hair and wrap around that tie, and you are good to go!
Hairstyle 2: Fishtail Braid Ponytail:
Step 1. Apply all steps present in the 1.1 section.
Step 2. Make two equal sections (name them as ‘first’ and ‘second’) of the ponytail. Both sections should contain natural hair and extension hair.
Step 3. Hold these two sections in both hands separately.
Step 4. Pull a small strand of hair from underneath the ‘first section,’ bring that strand around and add it to the hair on the opposite side (second section).
Step 5. Repeat the same steps on the opposite side by pulling the strand from underneath the ‘second section,’ and bringing that strand around, and adding it to the hair on the opposite side (first section).
Step 6. Keep repeating steps 4 and 5 until you are almost at the end of the hair.
Step 7. Tie with an elastic band and wrap some hair on it to hide that band!
And you are ready to rock one of the most popular ponytail braid hairstyles!
Hairstyle 3: Bubble Braid Ponytail
Step 1. Apply all steps in section 1.1
Step 2. After making a ponytail with hair extension and securing it with an elastic band, start making the bubble braid by tying an elastic band hair a few inches down from the first elastic band.
Step 3. To give the bubble section a proper shape, pinch the little hair sections and pull them outward. When pulling hair outward, make sure not to pull hair from the upper elastic band.
Step 4. Now, one bubble has been created. Now tie the third elastic band a few inches down from the second elastic band.
Step 5. Pinch small hair sections and pull them outward to give this bubble a proper shape, as you did for the previous one.
Step 6. Create as many bubbles as you want until you reach almost at the end of the ponytail extension; tie another elastic band there. Now, flatter your style!
Note: Please use the same colored or clear elastic bands or wrap them with hair strands after making a bubble for better results.
Hairstyle 4: Dutch Braids and Ponytail:
Step 1. Create a middle partition on your head. You have two sections of hair now.
Step 2. Clip one part.
Step 3. Start working on the second part by picking a small section from your hair close to the middle partition line at the front hairline.
Step 4. Make three strands (left, center, right) of the picked section.
Step 5. Start making the dutch braid by taking the center strand, flipping it over the right strand, and moving the left strand underneath the right side.
Step 6. Now you have a new center strand, flip it over the right strand and move the left strand underneath the right side. When doing this, make sure to add some hair from the scalp to the outside strands.
Step 7. Repeat the process while adding hair from the scalp to the outside strands until you reach the crown of your head. Secure braid.
Step 8. Now, pick the second part that you clipped in the beginning and start making the dutch braid until you reach the crown of your head.
Step 9. Gather all your natural hair and make a ponytail. Make sure it is super secure at its place.
Step 10. Now grab Uni Wigs’ ponytail hair extension, place its claw/grip part at the base of your ponytail and tuck its claw under the elastic band. Next, wrap its tail part at the base of the ponytail.
And one of the cool braid ponytail hairstyles is done!
Hairstyle 5: French Braid Ponytail:
Step 1. Create a partition on the left side or right side. Start the process of making braid on the left side if you parted on the right side. If parted on the right side, start making a braid on the left side.
Step 2. Pick a small section of hair at the front hairline close to the partition line.
Step 3. Divide that section into three strands.
Step 4. Pick the right strand. Pass it over the middle. Don’t pick any extra hair, then move the left strand over the new middle strand.
Step 5. When repeating the above steps, a second time, add some hair from the scalp to the outer (left and right) strand.
Step 6. Keep repeating the same pattern until you reach the crown of your head. Secure the braid’s end.
Step 7. Gather all hair at the crown and make a ponytail of your natural hair.
Step 8. Now, pick the ponytail hair extension from Uni Wigs and apply it to your natural hair ponytail.
Step 9: Place its claw/grip part on the base of your ponytail and tuck its claw under your elastic band and wrap its tail part around the base of the ponytail.
